Cookie categories

  • Necessary — essential for the site to work: sign-in session, abuse protection, remembering the choice you make in this banner, and the NEXT_LOCALE cookie, which records the language we are serving pages in. These are technical: they do not profile and do not follow anyone across sites, which is why they are always active and require no consent (Art. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code). NEXT_LOCALE is set on the very first page, before you answer this banner, because without it we would not know which language to serve you.
  • Preferences — store interface choices such as the light/dark theme. The theme is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and never leaves your device.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics, loaded only if you accept it. If you decline, no Google script runs. Our internal reading statistics are a different thing and use no cookies: they rest on an anonymous fingerprint that changes every night, so they stay on even if you decline.
  • Marketing — none today. The site runs no behavioural advertising and shares no data with ad networks. The category stays in the banner only to record your choice in advance: for as long as this line says “none”, accepting it switches nothing on.

Separate from all of these, and not governed by this banner, is the personalisation of suggestions for registered users: you switch it on and off from the “Interests and personalisation” page in your account area, and it stays off until you turn it on.

Managing your consent
